Health and Safety Month Breakfast, Partnership with Worksafe and AIOH

Join WorkSafe Victoria and the Australian Institute of Occupational Hygienists (AIOH) for a free breakfast and informative discussion as part of Health and Safety Month. This session will explore a number of issues relevant to occupational hygienists, including welding fumes, workplace exposure limits, silica controls and noise.

We'll have time for any questions you may have at the end of the session.

Speakers

Perdita Dickson
Manager of Occupational Health and Operational Programs with WorkSafe Victoria. She is an occupational hygienist with over 15 years of experience in manufacturing, health care and as a regulator. Perdita joined WorkSafe Victoria as a Senior Occupational Hygienist and moved into the Prevention, Strategy and Planning Division in 2021.

Halil Ahmet
Principal Occupational Hygienist with WorkSafe Victoria, manages a team of Occupational Hygienists and is appointed as an Inspector under the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the Dangerous Goods Act. Engaged with WorkSafe Victoria as an Occupational Hygienist since 1990 and in that time has visited hundreds of workplaces regarding a wide range of hazards including silica, asbestos, isocyanates, noise, heat and Q fever.

James Webster
Before joining WorkSafe in April 2018, James worked as an A-Grade electrician in the construction industry. In his time at WorkSafe, James has enjoyed a variety of roles. As the Senior Construction Advisor, he enjoys developing guidance, providing advice, and getting out on-site. James has recently completed his Bachelor of Public Health and Health Promotion. The degree has helped in creating initiatives to address issues within the construction industry, including exposure to crystalline silica.

Jaemie Wilson
Principal Occupational Hygienist with the Victorian Infrastructure Development Authority and a board member of the AIOH Foundation, a registered Health Promotion Charity which has the aim of prevention and control of workplace occupational diseases in Australia. Jaemie has over 30 years’ experience in Occupational Hygiene and has worked in Occupational Hygiene Consulting and laboratory services, held senior management positions in Multinational companies in heavy manufacturing, Oil and Gas, Mining. During his career, Jaemie has worked all over Australia, New Zealand, Asia and the Middle East.

Geza Benke
Senior Research Fellow in the School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine, Monash University, Victoria, Australia. He has a BSc in Physics, a Master of Applied Science in Environmental Engineering and a PhD in Epidemiology. He is an investigator with the Australian Mesothelioma Registry and has completed over twenty occupational and environmental health studies in Australia and overseas. His main interests are in Occupational and Environmental exposure assessment, primarily in cancer and respiratory epidemiology. Geza is currently an investigator with the Australian Mesothelioma Registry and is continuing follow-up on 3 occupational cohort studies. Geza is a COH, Fellow and former president of the Australian Institute of Occupational Hygienists (2008), has been a member of the Australian Acoustical Society for 35 years and has published over 200 peer reviewed journal papers, book chapters and government reports.
